I'm a full-time artist working in acrylic, collage, and mixed media. Born in 1961 to Swedish immigrants, I grew up in rural Illinois. My love of the outdoors led me to move to Alaska. There, I spent my entire first career as a music and movement teacher. I'm now happily married to my wife of 16 years. We live much of the time oceanside in Chiriqui, Panama with our four dogs and two cats.
My background in music leads me to explore pattern in everyday things - the buttons on a coat, ocean waves, pebbles in the sand. I love working in acrylic because it is the great impersonator; it can take on the softness of watercolor, the vividness of a photo, and the nuance of oil.
I start each piece with only a smidge of an idea. Oftentimes, that spark of an idea awakened me during the “witching hour”. That is the wee hours of the morning, before dawn.
From there the painting tells me where to go as layer after layer appears on the canvas or paper. Often the result explores what I'm reading or experiencing in my day-to-day life. Music, animals, light, shadow, and texture all speak to me.
I hope that my art intrigues and leads you to make associations with experiences in your own life.
My art business has been designated as a "Trusted Art Seller" with The Art Storefronts Organization, which means you can shop with confidence, and know that I stand behind the quality and value of my products.
